OK, that's me twelve years ago, a happy day, lots of beer. Hours of Photoshop have been necessary to achieve this.

That's me too, though obviously on a less happy day.

I was born to Barcelona in 1960. As there is a great deal of love for Nature in my family I undergone a Biology career at the Barcelona University. Shortly after receiving my degree in 1982 I started working at a Public Mosquito Control Service. I specialized there in Entomology, and later carried out a PhD degree (1992-1998) on population genetics, physiology, morphology and ecology of the mosquito Culex pipiens.

Although I won a photo contest when I was only 5 (yes! I did trip the shutter! not Dad!) I started taking my first slides in 1974. However, I only became serious about insect photography at the university; in order to get our degree we were requested to collect, kill and pin a number of arthropods. Since at that time I refused to kill any living being I just got pictures - instead of the insects themselves. I made the same in Botany; fortunately enough, Mammals II and Ornithology did not request any pinned species collection.

As of today, many years later, my Entomology teachers still laugh at me, because my present job involves killing several trillions mosquito larvae per week. That's life :-))

Well, a long time came without images because I was very busy with other things. I finally resumed photography by 1995, renewed my equipment and started selling pictures on a freelance basis (I don't think that anyone could make a living in Spain only by selling insect photographs).

I am a member of AEFONA, the Spanish professional association of Nature Photographers, as well as of Fotonatura, a Spanish discussion group and website including an online magazine, where I have also a presentation card and a gallery.

My credits include several dozens images published in textbooks (Història Natural dels Països Catalans), Spanish magazines including some covers (Ciencia y Vida, Quercus, QUO), newspapers (Avui, DieRheinpfalz), calendars, and the Internet. My work has been featured as invited photographer in the book The Best of Nature Photography, in print. Additionally, I have won a couple of photo contests that included macro categories, and appointed as judge in a couple of them. Not outstanding overall, but not that bad neither, if we take into account that I am still building my stock archive.

Those of you interested in my scientific background and publications, are welcome to visit my work homepage. There is a great deal of information there about biological mosquito control and integrated pest management.

Additionally to capturing as many insect images as possible, I am also working in a delightful project.
